History of Solidisk

1981: Commodore Pet memory expansion and also for the Video Genie / TRS80

1982: ZX81 memory expansion. The first RAM disk created with 64k or 128k (placed inside under the keyboard) for this pioneering micro.

1983: BBC Micro add-ons: sideways RAM, double-density disk, introducing the first 10MB Winchester hard disk system.

1987 to present day: Build and service modern PCs and servers.

Supply of Intel computer systems built to specification.

Solidisk is a certified Intel provider, qualified to build desk top PCs and file servers using Intel manufactured hardware. Product quality is excellent and PC and fileserver hardware comes with a three year warranty as standard.

Supply of parts

We can supply spare parts such as hard drives, power supplies, keyboards and mice (suitable for school students), all of which are useful to school technicians.

Most parts are warranted for 3 years.

Maintenance:

We offer full hardware maintenance services covering most brands of equipment, including RM, CSE, Dell, Hewlett Packard, third party providers and of course our own products.

Software:

As an authorised Microsoft, Sophos and Symantec Educational license supplier, Solidisk can offer licenses from these companies quickly and at low cost.

Security software: we have also developed a suite of software – Netmin – designed to control educational computer suites. Please ask for further information.

Consultancy:

Solidisk can provide in depth consultancy and programming services at an extremely reasonable cost. Among past projects, we have developed large scale epos, factory lines and commercial websites.

Cabling:

We can supply computer trunking and cabling (including optical fibre) to Category 5, Category 5E and Category 6 standards. All cabling is fully certified.

The benefits of Solidisk:

A fast response at all times:

Because of our proximity to most of our customers, we offer an exceptionally fast response time to requirements and reported problems. We can usually build PCs and fileservers within 24 hours for emergency situations and can be at school premises within an hour for critical cases such as fileserver breakdown.

Proper qualifications:

All Solidisk staff are educated to good university degree level and have Intel and Microsoft certifications.

A local company with a solid background:

Solidisk has been in business since 1982 and has developed a wide local customer base specialising in work for schools, charities and small businesses.

We own substantial freehold buildings, have no borrowings and are able to offer good credit terms even for larger projects.

Solidisk has to date not been subject to any contentious legal proceedings and has an exemplary record for its standards of service.

A flexible and pleasant approach:

We know how pressurised school ICT staff can be.

We therefore provide quotations and goods extremely quickly, or advise clearly if we foresee any delays, and offer advice both informally and formally – ICT staff can call us on a normal local landline number throughout the day without the need for call centre queuing.

We are often able to offer equipment on loan for trial or emergency purposes, and an excellent computerised record system also means that we can supply details of previous transactions instantly.
